SCGM  VIBES

Welcome to the SCGM quarterly update page.  I hope this finds you excited from your recent Celebrations  of Honors and awards and gearing up for a brand new year in Girls Ministries.

Please visit our Theme page and read about the new theme for 2018-19!  I think you will enjoy digging into the Holy Spirit with GMs over the next year. I most certainly am.

Romans 8:14 (NIV) "Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God."

Led by the Spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit lives within a true child of God and follower of Christ in order to lead him or her to think, speak, and act according to the commands, principles, instructions, guidelines, standards, and examples of God's Word.  (2) Always in agreement with God's written word.  (1Cor 2:12-13) (2Pet 1:20-21).

1Cor 2:12-We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit  who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

That we may understand.    In the proper way He will reveal and illuminate what He prepared for those who truly love him.  Reading and studying the Bible, the Holy Spirit can enlighten our understanding of the truth.

1Cor 2:13-This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

WORDS TAUGHT BY THE SPIRIT.  Though Paul is writing about the God-initiated, Spirit-directed nature of his preaching, vs. 7-13 suggest the steps by which the Holy Spirit also inspired the writing of scripture or God's written word,

  •  Step 1 Vs.7-9 suggests that God desired to communicate his wisdom with human kind.  This wisdom concerned his plans and purpose to restore us  to a personal relationship with himself through the life, death, and resurrection of his Son, Jesus.

  • Step 2 vs. 10 states that it is only through the Holy Spirit that God's truth and wisdom are revealed to humanity.

vs. 11 states that the Spirit knows God's thoughts fully, as he too is God.

  •  Step 3 vs. 12 is God's revelation given to chosen believers through the present of the Spirit within them (Rom 8:11,15)

  •  Step 4 vs. 13 states the writer's of scripture recorded the words taught by the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit not only directed the writer's thought, but the very choice of the words they used (Ex 24:4; Isa51:16; Jer 1:9; 36:28,32; Eze 2:7; Matt 4:4) so as to communicate exactly what God intended.  At the same time, the Spirit's guidance in expressing God's truth was not mechanical or impersonal; rather, the Spirit used each writer's vocabulary and individual style.

  •  Step 5 vs. 14-16 states that believers can understand God-inspired Scripture as they examine its content through the help, illumination, and insight of the Holy Spirit.

2Pet 1:20-Above all, you must understand that no prophesy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.

NO PROPHECY OF SCRIPTURE.  No prophecy in Scripture came about by the writer's own ideas or reasoning, but it came about from the Holy Spirit.

2 Pet 1:21- For prophecy  never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

MEN SPOKE FROM GOD...BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.  What Peter affirms here about the God-given origin and authority of the prophecy recorded in Scripture is true about all things in his written Word:  "men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

There are several reasons for this.

   1.  It is the only way to be loyal and true to what Jesus Christ, the apostles, and the Bible itself teach about Scripture.

   2.  Without a strong and uncompromising view of Holy Scripture, the church has no true and sure foundation for its faith, no certainty of salvation, and moral absolutes.  There would be no message to preach without doubt, no sure expectancy for the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the working of miracles, and no hope for Christ's soon and certain return.

   3.  Without a strong view of Holy Scriptures, Bible-believing Christians have no absolute and objective truth by which to judge and reject this world's ever-changing values, human philosophies, and ungodly practices.

   4.  Without a strong view of Holy Scripture, Christians will not be ready to endure the extreme difficulties and deception of the last days (1Th 2:1-12; 1Tim 4:1).

   5.  Without a strong view of  the Holy Scripture, people will not recognize the full authority and teaching of the Bible.  As a result, their faith will be weak and the Bible will be replaced by subjective religious experience by independent, critical  and faulty human reasoning.

IT TEACHES US THAT THE LEADING OF THE SPIRIT IS ALWAYS  IN AGREEMENT WITH GOD'S WORD.  Both the thoughts and language of Scripture were inspired by the Spirt of God.  Not a single writer used a false word or phrase.  The Holy Spirit protected God's Word from all error and untruth.  God's spirit knows all things and comprehends the full nature and depth of God's plans.  The Spirit  also gives Christ's faithful followers a strong assurance of the direct God-given origin of His Word as revealed in the Bible (John 16:13; Eph 1:17)  As believers we must maintain a strong uncompromising view of Holy Scripture as inspired and authoritative.
